Josephine Gomes Obituary

BRADFORD, Pa. - Josephine Banner Gomes, 102, formerly of Erwin, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Bradford Pavilion in Bradford.

Born April 21, 1923, in Unicoi County, Tenn., she was one of 13 children born to Robert W. and Julie E. Bailey Banner. She was first married to France Walker and later to Frederick Gomes, both of whom predeceased her.

Josephine lived in the Erwin area most of her life until moving to the Olean area in her later years to be closer to her son.

She worked various jobs in her life, including at a former cannery, and as a cook and waitress.

She was artistic and enjoyed painting, needlepoint, crocheting, decoupage and crafts in general.

She leaves behind a son, Kyle Walker of Allegany; a daughter, Rita Runnels of California; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by a grandson, David Walker; and 12 brothers and sisters.

It was Josephine's wish to not have a formal funeral service. She will be buried in the Banner Cemetery in Erwin.

Arrangements are with the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
