Josephine Sabino, age 75, of Plainville, CT, passed away on December 11, 2025, after a long battle with cancer, with her family by her side.
Josephine was born in Turi, Italy, to Giovanni and Carmella Sabino. She previously resided in New Britain, CT, before settling in Plainville, CT.
Ms. Sabino was employed by Parker Fluids, retiring in 2014. She was a devoted parishioner of Saint Anne’s Catholic Church and a lifelong resident of Plainville. She was an active member of the Calabria Mia Society. A loving and dedicated mother, she cherished time spent with her family. In addition to raising her children, she maintained her career as an assembly worker.
Josephine was a lighthearted woman with a gentle and caring nature, always putting the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed spending time at her church, playing bingo, and sharing laughter with her friends.
She was predeceased by her eldest son Giovanni Vitarella who she now joins in eternal rest. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her sons, Giuseppe Vitarella and Mario Vitarella; her brother Vincent Sabino and his wife Iwona Sabino of Berlin, CT; her brother Matthew Sabino of Middletown, CT; her sister Enza Sabino of Italy; her sister Maria Sabino and her husband Donato Savino of Italy; and her sister Lucy Soaft and her husband James Soaft of Berlin, CT. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Josephine’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to her close friends and care associates for their many acts of kindness and support during her illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at 9:30 AM at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, 411 So. Main St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Ann Church of St. Joachim Parish, 101 North St., New Britain. Entombment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 17, 2025 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
