Josephine Turngren Obituary

Josephine Turngren

March 8, 1936 - July 9, 2025

Josephine "Josie" Turngren, 89 of Hayward, Wisconsin passed away on July 9, 2025 surrounded by family at Water's Edge Care Center in Hayward, WI.

Josie was born on March 8, 1936 to Thomas and Anna Leuther in Harvey, IL.

She graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. Josie married George Turngren on January 29, 1955 and resided in Hazel Crest, IL until 1989 when they retired to the family cabin on Glover Lake, in Hayward. After a few years, they tore down the cabin and had their retirement home built.

Josie loved playing cards and going to Bingo, plus annual trips out to Las Vegas. She was a warm and caring person who loved having all her grandkids and their friends out to the lake. She enjoyed having family and friends over for Holiday and Sunday dinners. It was truly her "happy place".

Josie is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, George Turngren. Her children Tom (Kathy) Turngren, Mike (Pam) Turngren, all of Hayward. Her grandchildren, Melanie (Killian), Melissa (Luke), Jessica, Thomas, Jonathan (Miriam), Jeffrey (Kaci), Jeremy (Haley), and Christina (James). Her great grandchildren, Brecken, Ryleigh, Makenna, Robert, Levi, Barrett, and Harper. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Josie was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Justice and her parents Thomas and Anna (Zurek) Leuther.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hayward Senior Center.
