Mrs. Josephine "Jo" Kirkland White, age 82, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, formerly of Douglas, Georgia, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, October 21, 2024, at Southeast Georgia Regional Health System – Brunswick Campus.
Mrs. White, a native of Douglas, Georgia, was born March 2, 1942, to the late Lewis Harrell Kirkland and the late Aline Stokes Kirkland. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. White was a hairdresser and previous owner of Magic Scissors in Douglas. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed fishing. Her greatest earthly love was time with her family. She had a special fondness for Easter and celebrating with all the family.
Along with her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy Lee White, with whom she shared 39 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Kirkland.
Mrs. White is survived by 3 children: Robert Jones and wife, Darlene, of Jacksonville, Florida, Pam J. McKinnon and husband, Al, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, David Lane Jones and wife, Michelle, of Gainesville, Florida; 9 grandchildren: Samantha, Haley, Ashton, Bryce (Sara), Blake (Marissa), Colt, Cameron (LaDale), Carter, Chloe; 4 great-grandchildren: Camrie, Lynsie Jo, Bennett, Wesley; and 1 sister, Marilyn K. Faulkner. She also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends.
A private family graveside funeral service will be held at Douglas City Cemetery with Rev. Don Fender Officiating. Interment will immediately follow.
Active pallbearers will include grandsons: Colt Jones, Cameron Jones, Carter Jones, Bryce McKinnon, and Blake McKinnon. Granddaughters will release butterflies in celebration of her transformation. Great grandchildren will each provide a special rose.
