Joshua Pack Obituary

Joshua Pack, Co-CEO of Fortress Investment Group and loving father, passed away on September 29, at the age of 51, in London. While a gifted investor and business leader of Fortress Investment Group since 2002, Josh was also a dedicated husband and father. While successfully managing a myriad of assets and a team of respected professionals, he was even more nimble and attentive at home with Ryan, Justin, Kieran, Dagny, and his wife Jacqueline. He coached sports teams, led scout trips, and served as a soccer referee. Josh loved to cook and found relaxation in preparing dinner for his family. The six Packs explored the globe together, guided by Josh's love for travel and his desire to show his children the rich beauty of this world. In 2016 and 2017, they spent a full year visiting 44 countries, splitting time between charity work, cultural enrichment, and education. A devout convert to Catholicism, Josh attended Mass every Sunday, no matter where he and the family found themselves in the world. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Josh is also survived by his father, Anthony Pack, a retired lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps, who served several tours in Vietnam and subsequently became the General Manager of the Eastern Municipal Water District in California. Joshua's Australian mother, Lynette Pack, is an artist and served extensively with the Daughters of the British Empire, a non-profit organization. Josh is also survived by two brothers. At the age of 23, Josh married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline. At Rancho Buena Vista High School, near San Diego, she was a cheerleader, and he was a star football player. They met in a 11th grade AP history class, a subject they both deeply appreciated, and they continued to discuss, along with many others, for more than three decades, until his unexpected death last month. Jacqueline and Josh married shortly after graduating from college. He attended the Air Force Academy and received his BA from California State University San Marcos. Josh began his career in finance at Wells Fargo and joined Fortress Investment Group shortly after its inception in 2002. He loved the company and his co-workers there and rose to become Co-CEO in 2024. Josh Pack was known for his kindness, generosity, and commitment to serving other people. He was a tireless advocate for veterans and military families, establishing scholarships and veteran centers on campuses, supporting the Navy Seal Foundation, the Marine Scholarship Fund and a number of philanthropic causes. He also was a generous supporter of the archdiocese of Los Angeles and Dallas. He was dedicated to finding cures for type 1 Diabetes and Breast Cancer, notably through his support for Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) and Susan G. Komen. As a man, he never forgot his humble beginnings and was known as a man to show up for people. He felt he had been blessed by God and had been given the opportunity to help the community around him. Josh loved music, snowboarding, hiking, Hawaii, the Los Angeles "San Diego" Chargers and the San Diego Padres. He had friends from all walks of life, but most of all, he loved Fortress and his family. A funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dallas.

Dear family,
Remembering so many wonderful events in the early years with the Pack family. From Monte Vista to your gorgeous wedding day. Josh was one of a kind. We always knew he would succeed in whatever he chose to pursue. Please know how truly saddened we were to hear about his passing. We all send our prayers for you as you navigate your next chapter. We lost Gary in January of `22. Grief is a stow away that hangs around endlessly. I know you will miss Josh forever, and you will cherish all that he means to your family. Sending LOVE.

Jesuit Crew

There are no words that can be offered for such a profound loss of an amazing man. Josh and the Pack family generously supported Jesuit Crew, and the impact of that generosity will not be forgotten. Josh was often seen on the banks of the water cheering on our crew, and his son Kieran. The entire Jesuit Crew family, past and present, are sending our most sincere condolences and love to the Pack family.

Our thoughts are with the Pack family. Josh was one of the most calm and collected individuals I knew in Finance. May his soul rest in peace. Anju & Rahul Ahuja.
