Joshua Sylvester Obituary Joshua Sabatino Sylvester, 41, of Mystic CT, beloved son, brother, friend and partner, died unexpectedly Sunday October 12, 2025. Josh was born October 7, 1984 in
New London, CT.
Growing up, Josh was an avid sports star, excelling at soccer and baseball. Fond memories include summer days spent with his sister, brother and cousins on golf carts, playing various games and swimming. As Josh grew, soccer was a constant staple-he went on to Keene State College where he flourished as a varisty freshmen player. As we all know, college is not for everyone, when Josh realized this, he discovered his passion for all things construction. Carrying on in his father's footsteps, Josh went on to work for Pasteryak Paving, B&L Construction and then Suchocki and Son Inc. as an equipment operator. But his most treasured part of life was with his long time girlfriend Andrea Drakos. Meeting in Mystic, it was love at first sight and over the years they spent time traveling together, playing hockey, cooking many dinners together (with Andrea doing the cooking and Josh the eating!) going to the beach and other fun activities.
Before Josh went into construction, he spent time racing SK modifieds alongside his older brother Zach. Together, the two raced at Stafford Motor Speedway, Waterford Speed Bowl and New Symrna in Florida. Josh had an incredibly close-knit group of friends that he maintained relationships with no matter where he was living. Together, trips to Vegas were had, and countless golf games were played. Josh also spent time snowmobiling up North with the same group of friends. In Josh's free time, when he wasn't lending a helpful hand or assisting someone with a home project, he played on a mens soccer team at Oakwood in Glastonbury where his legendary footwork was put to use.
Josh deeply valued family, friends and time spent doing what he loved. He was an incredibly hard worker and a very dedicated person to anything he put his mind to. Josh would take annual Christmas shopping trips with his sister Andrea, where they would get dinner and then pick out gifts for their family. He was always a regular at family gatherings, with his laughing, smiling face highlighting our family functions. His lightheartedness, and quick ability to laugh will be tremendously missed.
Josh is predeceased by his Grandparents, Jean and Andrew Gasper of Andover, June and Chet Worski of Lebanon, Grandfather Anthony Sylvester of Hebron and his Uncles Andrew Gasper and Douglas Griswold of Andover. Joshua will be sorely missed by his parents, Thomas and Marylin Sylvester of Colchester, his siblings, brother Zach Sylvester, sister-in law, Karen, of Lebanon, sister Andrea Sylvester-Parkinson, and brother-in-law Matthew of Columbia. His influential presence will be missed by his nephews, Logan Sylvester, Blake Sylvester and Denver Parkinson. He also leaves behind the love of his life, Andrea Drakos of Mystic and their dog Pearl. Joshua will be forever missed by family, friends and all whose lives he touched.
Calling hours will be Friday October 24th, 2025 at Aurora-McCarthy Funeral home in Colchester Connecticut from 4-6pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Josh's name to Out of the Darkness Community Walks.
