Joy Carla Phillips, 62, of Spartanburg, passed away on Sunday morning, October 6, 2024, at White Oak Estates. Joy was born March 1, 1962, in Spartanburg, a daughter of the late Gladys Hammett Phillips and Loyd Metz Phillips.
Joy is a member of Cannons Camp Ground United Methodist Church. She loved her church very much. She remembered everyone’s birthday with a card or a phone call and was loved by all. She served as an assistant to the Sunday School superintendent and as a Sunday School teacher in the Nursery. She was also a member of the Ruth Circle Women’s Group and enjoyed working with the Food Pantry.
Joy was a graduate of the Charles Lea Center and worked with the Charles Lea Industrial Center (Workability).
Joy is survived by her sister, Rita Phillips Powell (Harry) of Spartanburg; her brothers, Charles Perry Phillips of Cowpens and Danny Thomas Phillips (Marcia) of Spartanburg; her nieces, Tiffany Anderson (Scott) and Amy Bishop (Ben); her nephews, Timothy Powell, Carl Phillips (Kristi) and Clay Phillips (Brandi); and her great-nieces and nephews, Hyatt West, Ashlyn Powell, Ava Phillips, Hammett Anderson, Colton Phillips, Alivia Phillips, Amelia Phillips, Madeline Phillips, Cameron Phillips, Allie Bishop and Maggie Bishop. Joy was predeceased by a nephew, Nathan Phillips.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Cannons Camp Ground United Methodist Church, 3450 Cannon Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Miriam Mick and the Rev. David Ervin. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The service of committal will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cannons Camp Ground United Methodist Church, 3450 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
