Joy Wheeler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highland Park Funeral Home and Crematory on Mar. 3, 2026.
Evangelist Joy Renee Gragg- Wheeler

Romans 14:8

For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.

Joy Renee Gragg-Wheeler caught her flight to glory on the morning of February 26, 2026. Joy's name fit her perfectly. She never met a stranger and with a bright smile and hand extended, she warmly greeted new faces and embraced old friends with a big hug. Even on an ordinary day, she was always happy to see you. Joy had a genuine concern for others. When she asked how you were doing, she truly wanted to know.

She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, Evangelist, prayer warrior and friend. Joy was an altogether loving person. She enjoyed talking on the phone with her family and friends. Though she had no natural children she was "everybody's mama". She would lovingly offer her advice and you were not going to leave her presence without hearing, "Come here and let me pray for you. "

During her healthier days, Church was her life and she enjoyed worshipping and praising the Lord. Her passion for Christ led her to co-found, Salvation Now House of Prayer where she faithfully served as an evangelist. Joy was committed to sharing the Gospel and wanted everyone to know who Jesus was and the transformation He made in her life.

Beyond ministry, Joy just loved to go! Whether it was traveling to various cities and states, dining out or enjoying the simple things in life, like a good laugh, Joy's life serves as an example of genuine love, a born-again believer and one who persevered to the very end.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants. (Psalms 116:15).

We thank God for sharing his servant Joy with us! Always in our hearts!

Preceding her in joining the Lord were her parents, John "JT" and Effie Gragg, and her sister, Sharon K. Gragg-Davis

Joy leaves to cherish her memory her brothers, Clark K. Gragg (Kansas City, KS) and Thomas E. (Gilda) Gragg (Sachse, TX); her sisters, Elizabeth A. Strain (Los Angeles, CA) and Bridgette L. Gragg-Donnell (Nashville, TN); a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, her church family and friends.
