Joyce Ann Abdon

1936 - 2024

Joyce Ann (Ketcham) Abdon of Sweetser, Indiana, went into the hands of Jesus on May 8, 2024, with family gathered by her side.

Joyce was the daughter of the late Fern and Roy Ketcham of Canton, Illinois. She was born January 26, 1936. Joyce married William James Abdon (deceased) of Marion, Indiana, on Sept. 2, 1955. They had 3 children: Dorine, Douglas, and Darla.

Joyce enjoyed being a stay at home mom, and then she went to work for Oak Hill United School Corporation, where she was a bus driver and cafeteria cook for 12 years. Joyce enjoyed many pastime activities, including bowling, camping, sewing, boating, fishing, quilting, baking, cake decorating, playing cards, bingo, and time with family. Joyce was always ready for a good game of euchre. Joyce loved making quilts for others, especially her grandchildren. She made some of the most beautiful quilts. She also passed that trait onto her 2 daughters.

Joyce is survived by Dorine Denise (Abdon) Ward and husband Rick Ward of Sweetser, Indiana, Douglas Roy Abdon and wife Felicia (Huntley) Abdon of Bringhurst, Indiana, Darla Jean (Abdon) Cox and husband Larry Cox of Columbus, Indiana.

Joyce also has 8 grandchildren Maria (Cardini) Stewart and husband Lannie of Sweetser, Indiana, William James Abdon II of Winamac, Indiana, Travis Michael Roy Cardini of Sweetser, Indiana, Cody Michael Abdon and wife Paige of Lafayette, Indiana, Devin Derek Cox and wife Courtney of Westfield, Indiana, Elizabeth Joyce Cox of Columbus, Indiana, Raeanna Christine (Cox) Hostetler and husband Tyler of Hope, Indiana, and Nik Furnish and wife Kay of Upland, Indiana. She also has 11 great-grandchildren, niece Tammy (Abdon) Miller and husband Butch, and two brothers, Milton Ketcham and wife Patricia and Ed Ketcham and wife Becky, all of Canton, Illinois.

Arrangements for Joyce have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 South Western Avenue, Marion, Indiana, where a visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
