Joyce Ackerman Obituary
SHE GRADUATED FROM ROCK ISLAND, IL HIGH SCHOOL IN 1950 AND WENT ON TO RECEIVE A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN 1954 FROM NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY. AFTER GRADUATION. SHE WAS EMPLOYED IN THE CHICAGO AREA FOR FIVE YEARS, WHILE EMPLOYED AT THE AMERCIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION, SHE TOOK FLYING LESSONS AND OBTAINED A PRIVOT PILOTS LICENSE. SHE THEN DEPARTED THE UNITED STATES FOR TWO TOURS IN VIETNAM WORKING WITH THE UNITED STATES AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
IN VIETNAM SHE MET HER FUTURE HUSBAND, COL. ALBERT ACKERMAN AND THEY MARRIED IN SEPTEMBER OF 1972. TOGETHER THEY TRAVELED THE WORLD, BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER AL'S RETIREMENT. ALONG THE WAY THEY ACQUIRED A PARROT, "SEYMOUR" WHO PROVIDED MANY HOURS OF LOVE AND ENTERTAINMENT.
JOYCE AND AL FINALLY SETTLED PERMANENTLY IN SARASOTA.
JOYCE IS PRECEADED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS THOMAS AND FRIEDA AND HER HUSBAND COL. ALBERT ACKERMAN.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER STEP -DAUGHTER CHRISTINE D. MORRIS AND STEP-GRANDDAUGHTER JESSICA ROTH.
SERVICES FOR JOYCE WILL BE PRIVATE.
