Joyce Ahles, 89, Marathon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Copperleaf Assisted Living, Marathon, while under the care of Heartland Hospice.
She was born April 2, 1935, in Milan, daughter of the late Werner and Louise (Vesely) Schaefer. On June 25, 1955, she married Florian Ahles at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Milan.
Joyce retired from Wausau Insurance. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards, board games, crossword puzzles, trivia games, game shows on TV, and watching baseball and the Brewers while keeping stats. She most of all enjoyed spending time with her family especially during holiday celebrations, and special occasions.
Survivors include her children, Thomas (Ann) Ahles, Wausau, Robert (Sandra) Ahles, Marathon, Gwyn (Dale) Strasser, Edgar, Kaye (Steve) Homeyer, Medford, Andrew Ahles, Wausau, Matthew (Colleen) Ahles, St. Paul, MN, and Tracy (Mark) Paul, Edgar; 15 grandchildren, Neil, Heather, Kaci, Paul, Joshua, Justin, Travis, Jennifer, Brandon, Katelynn, Caleb, Jacob, Christopher, Rose, and Mitchel; 14 great-grandchildren, Alicia, Sierra, Melody, Jasmin, Cynthia, Alyssa, Cameron, Jones, Jovie Joyce, Emma, Kylie, Jaxton, Croixson, and Alessandra.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Florian; granddaughter, Jessica Homeyer; great-granddaughter, Luka Ahles; and her brothers and sisters.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, January 11, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Parish, Marathon. The Rev. Msgr. Joseph Diermeier will preside. Private family burial will be at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service all at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Parish, Marathon.
