Janice L. Baird

Piedmont, SC

Janice L. Baird, age 86, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

Born in Filbert, West Virginia, she was the eldest daughter of twelve children born to the late Ora and Ruth Parsons. As the eldest daughter, Janice naturally stepped into a role of responsibility and leadership early in life – a trait that would define her character for decades to come.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce A. Baird; her son, Jeffrey M. Tabor; and her siblings Ora J. Parsons, Pete Parsons, Ronnie Parsons, Deborah Silcox, and Andy Parsons.

She is survived by her loving children, Beverly Tabor Phillips (Randy) of Piedmont, South Carolina; Michael D. Tabor (Lynn Palmer) of Six Mile, South Carolina; and stepdaughter Kathy Baird (Lon Remlinger) of Cumming, Georgia. She is also survived by her siblings Barbara Vance of Sunbury, Ohio; Rudy Parsons of Moundsville, West Virginia; Ruby Shutler of Moundsville, West Virginia; Pam Van Fossen of Columbus, Ohio; Jack Parsons of Hartwell, Georgia; and Donna Cox of Moundsville, West Virginia.

Janice was a proud and devoted grandmother to 11 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to 4 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

Janice spent most of her adult life in Lavonia, Georgia, where she built lasting friendships and became an active member of her community. She was a proud member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge. A faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Toccoa, Georgia, she shared her love of music as a choir member, lifting her voice in song with joy and devotion.

Janice loved to dance and sing, and she brought energy into every room she entered. Those who knew her best often described her as a "drill sergeant" – firm, determined, and never afraid of hard work – but she would always work beside you just as hard. She had a firecracker personality, a generous heart, and a deep love for helping others. Strength and compassion lived side by side in her spirit.

The family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony at a later date.
