Joyce Bergman, 93, of Corning, Iowa, a beloved mother, wife, aunt, daughter, and grandmother, passed away on December 26, 2025, at Corning Specialty Care in Corning, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 20, 1932, in rural Corning, Iowa. Joyce graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1950 and went on to have a fulfilling career as a Teacher's Aide for the Corning Public Schools where she worked for many years.
Joyce was known for her tireless work in her large vegetable and flower gardens, displaying a green thumb that brought joy not only to herself but also to those around her. She was an excellent seamstress, often creating beautiful items for her loved ones and her community.
A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Corning, Joyce was active in church choirs, where she enjoyed singing and participating in the Bell Choir. She cherished moments spent with her grandchildren during the summer months and enjoyed knitting and quilting with friends from the church.
In her personal life, Joyce was united in marriage to John Allen Bergman on August 27, 1950, at the Corning United Methodist Church. Together, they raised four sons: The late John Paul Bergman (Janet), James Wesley Bergman (Colleen), Howard Vincent Bergman (Regina) and Joseph Allen Bergman (Marilyn).
Joyce's legacy lives on through her ten grandchildren: John Allen (Heather) Bergman, Sarah (Derek) Maeder, Robert (Angel) Bergman, Marcia (Scott) Riggs, Scott Bergman, Toni (Ross) Fillbach, Derek (Amy) Bergman, Lisa (Dr. Neil) Hansen, Matthew (Sandy) Bergman, and Melinda (Ryan) Jennings, alongside her 28 great-grandchildren.
Joyce's family also includes her sister, Arlene Sanford of Blair, Nebraska; daughter-in-law, Shirley Bergman of Jesup, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Bergman, on April 20, 2011, her son, John Paul Bergman, two sisters, Dorothy Haley and Charlotte Walter-Thomas, a brother-in-law, James Sanford, and her parents, LeRoy Vincent and Edith (Seybold) Brown.
A memorial service will be held on December 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Corning United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Lauri Greenlee and Pastor LeAnn Robine. The inurnment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church for a luncheon following the inurnment. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Joyce Bergman Memorial Fund to be established by the family. Joyce Bergman will be remembered as a generous spirit, dedicated to her family and community, whose kind heart touched the lives of many.
