Celebrating to honor the beautiful and amazing life of Joyce Marie Bodwin, born in Woodville, Texas, on July 6, 1950, to the late Isaac Busby and Lorene Moye Sharp. Joyce lost her battle with a rare skin cancer on June 12, 2025. Joyce lived 74 years of radiated grace, strength, and compassion as a proud resident of
Beaumont, Texas. Joyce embraced faith early on, and absolutely loved her church family, she became a very faithful and anointed member of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Delbert A. Mack Sr., Pastor, for over 33 years.
Joyce lived each day with unwavering warmth and a deep sense of purpose that left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was passionately known by many as Momma Joyce. She was a quiet force-always present, always loving-offering her family and friends the comfort of her wisdom and the steadiness of her heart. Joyce embodied kindness in its purest form, lifting others not through grand gestures, but through consistent care, thoughtful words, and an unshakable spirit. She was truly anointed, no matter how you treated her, she always treated you as a Godly Woman. Her influence remains etched in our lives, reminding us daily that love, resilience, and grace are the truest measures of a beautiful life well lived.
Family was the cornerstone of Joyce's heart. She loved fiercely and unconditionally, nurturing her loved ones with an unwavering devotion that never asked for anything in return. Her legacy lives on in the values she passed down, the love she cultivated, and the memories she gifted us.
One of her greatest accomplishments was being the maternal mother of her two sons (JJ) Jerald Jerome Gasaway and (JD) Joseph Durousseau III, who tragically loss his life in 2004. From these two sons, she was passionately known as Granny to four grandchildren; Ja'Quincy Durousseau, Ja'Lexus Durousseau, Samantha Yates, and a very special grandson Joshua Yates, who tragically lost his life in 2021.
Joyce was truly blessed with her soulmate and love of her life, Richard Lee Bodwin Sr. passionately known as "Dickie", the two were married for over 40 years. The two shared an undeniable and unbreakable love and bond, that truly shined through as they courageously blended Momma Joyce's JJ and JD, with Dickies four children Richard, Shannon, Merramonie, and Lisa. Together Momma Joyce and Dickie did whatever was necessary to love and provide for their family, while each loving all six as their own. Granny was blessed through this union with seven more grandkids, Jasmine, Tiana, Desiree, Terrance, Delton, Tre, Tracie, and Jesse. The selfless sacrifices that the both of them made for their family was countless, which is only a testament of their unwavering love for each other. Their soul ties was so remarkable "Dickie" followed Joyce better known to him as "Bae" home, on the very next day of her passing on June 13, 2025. Dickie thank you for loving me.
Her love for family extended to all, including her amazing siblings; Barbara Guidry, Christy Moye, Minnie Busby, Alice Busby (Tootie), Oscar Moye, Benjamin Moye, and L.B. Sharp. Both her sister's preceded her in death, Faye Busby, and Sylvester Scott a very recent and heartfelt loss, on June 5, 2025, whom helped take care of Joyce until her passing. In Joyce's own words, a special thanks to all my amazing siblings for supporting and helping me through it all.
Joyce's extension of love and family grew as she was blessed, in her own words with her daughter-in-law, turned daughter, Precious Durousseau, who never left us, and always took care of all me and Dickie's business, I can't thank you enough. Tonjia Yates, for always watching the house and our beloved "First Lady" pit bull of 15 years, and Lorena Gasaway for staying with my boy JJ, smile JJ.
Joyce had a very special bond with her nieces, Melinda (Linda Faye), I just love you, TaDesha, Kandace, Rachiel, Sherri, and (Niecy) Charlotte, a very special thanks to you, for truly helping to take care of me when I got really sick, I can't thank you enough. Her nephews, Eric Sr., and Mike Sr. Both (Tweet) Donald Ray Moye and David Guidry proceeded her in death.
Despite life's challenges, including her battle with cancer, Joyce was a natural born hustler. Her amazing salesmanship spread joy throughout with her award-winning homemade tamales, cinnamon rolls, and sweet potato pies as Dickie went all over Beaumont to sell on her behalf.
Joyce worked countless different fields to help provide for her family. Joyce worked at Bethlehem Steel, National Linen, BISD, Lamar University, Elegante, and last but not least, HEB on College, where she was passionately known as "a GIFT and the HEART of the store".
Joyce's life was a tapestry of compassion and kindness, stitched together by the countless ways she uplifted those around her. Her presence brought calm in times of uncertainty, her words brought comfort in moments of sorrow, and her laughter brought joy that resonated through generations. Whether she was sharing her wisdom, offering a listening ear, or simply sitting in gentle silence with someone in need, Joyce embodied the rare grace of simply being there-steadfast, present, and true.
