Mrs. Joyce Ann Cagnina, age 83, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on November 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Joyce moved to Chicago, Illinois, at an early age and spent most of her life in Oak Park, Illinois. In 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, James Cagnina Sr., and together they raised three sons - James Jr., Christopher, and Michael.
Joyce was fiercely devoted to her family, guiding them with love, compassion, and wisdom. After raising her young family, she returned to college and graduated Magna Cum Laude, a testament to her determination and lifelong love of learning. She went on to enjoy a distinguished career in financial services, ultimately serving as Chief Compliance Officer for a major investment advisory firm.
Joyce lived life to the fullest, never missing a single sporting event of her three sons. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, sharing laughter and love. Joyce found joy in reading mystery novels, observing birds in their natural habitat, and engaging in countless activities with her grandchildren. She also provided consistent support to her community, such as her involvement with the Chicago Jesuit Academy. Her vibrant interests reflected her zest for life and the deep connections she fostered with those around her.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, James; her three sons; and ten cherished grandchildren - Jake, Max, Jack, Brianna, Rune, Courtney, Madelena, Maia, Alessandra, and Marco - as well as her daughters-in-law Challa, Christine, and Dustin, and her dear sister Nancy.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Joyce Lorraine Peterson and Dean Blair Jacques, and by her siblings Barbara (Mack), Beverly (Restivo), and Dean Jr.
Joyce will be remembered for her intelligence, humor, and unshakable devotion to those she loved. She especially cherished time spent around the poker table with her family - where laughter, stories, and love were always in abundance.
