Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home - NaugatuckJoyce R. Cassidy, 91, passed away on September 18, 2025, peacefully at her home. Born on May 13, 1934 in Bedford Hills, NY, she was the daughter of the late Kermit and Sally (Philbrook) Rice. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis “Frank” Cassidy as well as her brothers, Rudy R. Rice and Ronald “Bud” Rice.
Joyce is survived by her beloved children, Sherri (Thomas) Carney, Sheila (James) Bookless, Shauna Houle, and Sharla Cassidy; grandchildren, Kristie Carney, Michelle (Evan Tallmadge) Houle, Samantha Carney, Stephni Houle, Nichole Houle, Llyod Simmons, Max Whitehead, and Travis Whitehead; great grandchildren, Cassidy Carney and Simon Tallmadge and nieces and nephews whom she loved. Her children and grandchildren were blessed to spend meaningful time with her in the days prior to her passing.
Joyce was raised and educated in Connecticut and Maine. Joyce had many jobs, she worked at Sikorsky, Timex, and Uniroyal, managed a local drugstore as well as established her own tailoring business. Joyce was a hard worker, determined and had a solution for any problem she came across. Joyce enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, shopping, spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren and visiting with her family. Joyce loved to give back, she was always looking for opportunities to donate to her community.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the visitation hour at 10:00 a.m. with the memorial service following on Wednesday, October 8 at 11:00 a.m. at The United Methodist Church of Waterbury at 250 Country Club Road. Memorial contributions may be made to: Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries (GWIM) Soup Kitchen, 770 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06702.
