Joyce Marie Chase

Joyce Marie Chase, 58 of Hollywood, MD, was called home to rest on September 2, 2013. Joyce was born on March 4, 1955 in Leonardtown, Maryland to the late Mary Frances Young-Thomas and the late Thomas C. Bankins. She was the daughter of her late stepfather, George A. Thomas, Sr., who raised her from an infant. Joyce received her education from the St. Mary’s County Public School system, graduating from Chopticon High School in 1974.

On December 30, 1976, Joyce was united in marriage to the love of her life, Francis X. Chase, Sr. They were happily married for 36 years. From this union, two sons were born - the late Francis X. Chase, Jr. and Cornelius D. Chase.

Joyce was a member and devoted parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church, Hollywood, Maryland. Joyce attended college in Baltimore, MD for one year, taking computer clerk classes. Later, she acquired a job at NAVAIR, Patuxent River, MD, as a computer clerk. Afterwards, Joyce began working in the retail industry. She was always a dedicated employee. She worked at King’s Department Store, Cato’s and K-Mart. Joyce worked at K-Mart from 1984 until her retirement in 2009; for twenty-five years.

Joyce will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, cousin, and friend. She cared deeply for others and would always go above and beyond to get things done. She was often called "Mama Joyce" because she knew how to take charge of any situation for anyone close to her as any mother would. Joyce loved being surrounded by her family and friends; especially her three grandchildren. Joyce religiously attended church, enjoyed going to family functions; especially going to Aunt Jane’s house for Sunday dinner, casinos, shopping and attending various other events. She also enjoyed watching wrestling and football with her family and representing her team, the Dallas Cowboys. Last, but certainly not least, Joyce was one of Tyler Perry’s number one fans. She loved watching all of his movies and shows. You can believe that on the day when one of Tyler Perry’s movies was released, Joyce was right there, that day, purchasing it.

Joyce was preceded in death by her mother, Mary F. Young-Thomas; father, Thomas C. “Bobby” Bankins; stepfather, George A. ”Dee” Thomas, Sr.; son,Francis X. Chase, Jr.; grandparents, George F. Thomas and Agnes L. Thomas and mother-in-law, Loretta L. Cruze.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Francis X. Chase, Sr., of Hollywood, MD; son, Cornelius D. Chase and daughter-in-law, Megan A. Chase, of Lexington Park, MD; two grandsons, Rytel and Isaiah Chase; one granddaughter, Makayla Chase; three Godchildren, ShavondaThomas, Daryl Thomas and Clifton Bankins; her stepmother, Elizabeth Bankins, of Hollywood, MD; four brothers, George A. "June" Thomas Jr., of Chaptico, MD, Francis "Boogie" Thomas (Janice), of Hot Springs, VA, Charles Thomas (Renee), of Lexington Park, MD and Melvin Butler, of Hollywood, MD; five sisters, Agnes "LaLa" Thomas, Alice Thomas, of Lexington Park, MD, Mary "Peaches" Thomas, of Lusby, MD, Gwendoline "Gwen" Bankins and Donetta Reeds (Carnell), both of Oakville, MD; Godmother,Thelma Ford and a host of other relatives and friends.

Joyce’s presence will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family will unite with friends on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 10:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 43950 St. John's Road, Hollywood, MD. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.
