Joyce Crate Obituary
She was born June 11, 1927, in Jamestown, a daughter of Burdette and Edith Johnson Swanson.
A 1945 graduate of Jamestown High School, she was employed by Marine Midland Bank in the branch banking office for 30 years.
She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Thule Lodge, AARP, Carroll Historical Society and Jamestown Senior Center. Joyce volunteered for Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Gebbie Foundation and the Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council.
Surviving is her daughter Cynthia (Pamela Marsh) Welling of Sinclairville; grandson Sean (Julie) Welling of Lititz, PA; three great grandchildren Tyler, Michael and Evelynn; four great great grandchildren; a host of stepchildren including Nancy Saulsgiver, Andrew Johnson, Timothy Johnson and Eric Johnson and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband William Kidd in 1991; second husband Andrew Johnson in 2006; third husband John "Jack" Crate in 2020; a grandson Rodney Welling; brother Ronald Swanson and sister Janet Delong.
Each of Joyce's husbands had a family that grew to love her and in turn each of them held a special place in her heart.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday in St. Luke's Episcopal Church Chapel.
Friends will be received in the Undercroft of the church following the service.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 410 N Main St, Jamestown, NY 14701.
