Joyce Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Clark Legacy Center - Nicholasville on Mar. 13, 2026.
Joyce Huddleston Davis died Saturday, March 07, 2026, at the age of 94, preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert (Bob) McCue Davis; son, Bradley Robert Davis; and sister, Charlotte Huddleston Luecke Scholl. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Davis VanHoose (Gary); grandchildren, Stephen Davis (Allison), Andrea Davis Gaydon (Jay), Caroline Davis Van Dora (Jeremiah), and Lara VanHoose Kirkland (Cody); great-grandchildren Brooke Ann Davis, James Robert, John Bradley, Haley and Kelsey Gaydon, Clara Ruth and Evelyn True Van Dora, and Jordyn Kirkland; as well as special relationships she had with Lisa Davis Collins, Randy Davis and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce was born on March 31, 1931, in Covington, KY. In 1950, after graduating from Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, KY, she enrolled at Georgetown College, where she was very active, both in cheerleading and her sorority, Kappa Delta. It was there she met her forever sweetheart, Coach Robert "Bob" Davis, and they married on June 14, 1952. In 1953, Bob was named the head basketball and football coach at Georgetown College, so Joyce embraced a new journey as a coach's wife. She invested her own passion and love regarding student development, the College, and the town itself, by teaching for several years at Garth Elementary and taking on an active role in the Georgetown College Women's Association. On a personal level, she and Bob welcomed the birth of their son, Bradley Robert Davis, in 1956, and then again, their daughter, Cindy Porter Davis, in 1960.

While raising her children, Joyce continued her education at Georgetown College, completing her degree in 1965. When Bob was selected as the Auburn University Men's Basketball Head Coach, Joyce moved away for a brief time, but returned to Georgetown in 1979, calling it home. A little later, she began working in the College's Admissions Department from 1981 - 1991. Being deeply rooted in her faith and the importance of community, she (along with Bob) was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church for 72 years, the Scott County Woman's Club for 50 years and the President's Club at Georgetown College. Throughout her life, she also remained heavily involved with her sorority, being honored last year by Kappa Delta for 75 years of dedicated service. One of Joyce's greatest joys was becoming a "Mimi" in 1981 and began her next chapter of nurturing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the next four decades.

Throughout her life, Joyce used her natural-born compassion as a way of enriching the many lives she touched. When facing any adversity, Joyce had the incredible ability to shepherd herself and others through with strength and grace. Joyce always felt blessed by God's love and, in return, lived her entire life loving unconditionally and sharing those blessings to anyone she touched.

On March 21, 2026, a celebration of Joyce's life will be held at Georgetown Baptist Church, starting with a 10:30 a.m. visitation and service at 11:30 a.m. Immediately following, there will be a brief graveside blessing at Georgetown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider donating, in Joyce's memory, to either Georgetown Baptist Church, Georgetown College, or the Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice Service.
