Joyce was a gentle spirit with a profoundly kind heart. She found her greatest joy in gathering her family together and getting lost in the pages of a good book, especially Cane River. Though her love was often quiet, it was a steady, undeniable force that her family felt strongly no matter what. She carried immense pride for her grandchildren, celebrating all their successes and the families they built. As her family reflects on her beautiful life, they hold closely these words read by her grandson, Ricky.

She was not merely a branch on a tree; She was the root, the deep, and silent anchor that held the earth together when the winds rose. She carried the weight of the world not as a burden, but as a calling, With a spine made of iron and a heart of open doors She taught us that strength is not always a shout. Sometimes, it is the quiet resolve to begin again when the day has been long. It is the way she looked at a storm and simply decided she would be the shelter. We see her now in the things she left behind- Not just the objects we can touch, But in the resilience she wove into our own skin, The way we stand a little taller Because she stood first. She was the architect of our courage. She has transitioned now, moving from the physical space of a room into the vast, unmapped territory of our memories. She is no longer the hand we Hold, But the very air that sustains us, A powerful, guiding light that Does not flicker, Even in the dark

The Family
Joyce's legacy continues through her surviving family: her daughter, Charla Doreen Williams; her brother, Anthony Milton; her grandsons, Ricky Nelson Canada II and Zachary Drake Canada; her granddaughter, Robbye Jasmine Moore; along with 9 great-grandchildren and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. She is preceded in transition by her husband, Fate Harris Jr.; her son, Drake Ellis Harris; and her brothers, James Milton III and Eugene Milton.
