Joyce Hodge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scot Ward Funeral Services - Conyers on Dec. 6, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joyce S. Hodge, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on December 5, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on July 10, 1941, in Rome, Georgia, Joyce lived a life filled with love, resilience, and a passion for family.

Joyce was the cherished daughter of Abner and Alice Smith. She grew up surrounded by the warmth of her parents and shared a special bond with her sister, Shirley Smith. Joyce's family was her cornerstone, and her love for them was immeasurable. She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, David Hodge Sr., her son, David Hodge Jr., and her sister, Shirley Smith. Each loss left a mark on her heart, yet Joyce embodied strength and grace, carrying their memories with her throughout her life.

Joyce is survived by her adoring daughter, Marsha Potts, and her son and daughter-in-law, Derrick and Michelle Hodge. She took immense pride in her grandchildren: Ashley Bowen, Kristina (Jimmy) Jeffries, Chantae Bowen, Chelsea Hodge, and Hayley Hodge. Joyce's legacy continues in the lives of her five great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy and laughter.

A woman of many passions, Joyce found solace in a variety of hobbies. She loved solving puzzles, immersing herself in books, and expressing her creativity through sewing and quilting. Her hands crafted not just beautiful quilts, but also comfort and warmth for her loved ones. Joyce enjoyed spending her evenings watching game shows, relishing the thrill of competition from the comfort of her home. A dedicated fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, she often shared her enthusiasm for the team with family and friends, celebrating their victories with infectious joy.

Joyce's spirit was vibrant, and she embraced life with a genuine love for the world around her. She enjoyed going out on the town, creating memories that would last a lifetime, and engaging with those she encountered with kindness and warmth. Her laughter and zest for life will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Pastor Richard Culpepper officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, December 8, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Condolences may be submitted on-line at www.scotward.com.
