Obituary
Joyce L. Hummel, of North Braddock, age 76, passed away surrounded by family on Friday, July 28, 2023.
Born on January 27, 1947, Joyce lived a life full of love and laughter.
Joyce was known for her kindness, humor, and friendliness.
Dear companion of Joseph Lenhart.
She is survived by her children, Sherry (John) Novak, John Hummel, Jr., and Tracy Corbett; her grandchildren, Jenny (Felipe) Richardson-Sanchez, Matthew (Maddy) Novak, Eric Corbett, Savannah Hummel, Jaden Pacheo, and Sarah Novak; and her great-grandson, Cameron Richardson, whom she greatly adored and enjoyed being called "Grammy Joy-Joy".
She also leaves behind her siblings, Chuck Cole, Gloria "Nadine" Cole, and Kenneth Cole.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Moore; her brother, Billy Cole; and her sister, the late Barbara Woods.
Joyce also had many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Joyce dedicated over 30 years of her life to UPMC Braddock Hospital, where she worked as the head dietician. She was respected and loved by her colleagues for her professionalism and her warm, friendly nature.
Joyce was very active with the Amvets Post 60 in North Braddock, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed the camaraderie of the AMVETS bus trips and parties.
She loved playing bingo, watching game shows and soap operas, and was a dedicated Steelers fan. She also had a special place in her heart for the Kansas City Chiefs, often referring to Patrick Mahomes as her "other grandson."
Joyce had a passion for cooking and took great pleasure in preparing meals for her family. Her daily routines, which included talking on the phone with her family, watching her television shows, and of course her daily naps between 2 and 4 p.m., kept her vibrant and connected to all.
Joyce will forever be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor, and her unwavering dedication to her family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Friends welcome Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory; 700 Linden Ave. at Cable; East Pittsburgh, PA 15112; (412) 824-8800, where a Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
