Joyce Laws, 88, passed away in her home on Tuesday, December 26, peacefully in her sleep. Beloved wife of the late Clinton Laws. Dear mother of Jim (Kristi) Laws, Jackie (Bill) Davis, Jo (Peter) Pauley, and Travis (Tammy) Laws. Proud grandmother of Jessie (Josh), Courtney (Steve), Storm, Kate (Michael), Curtis (Hannah), David and Megan. Loving great grandmother of Cooper, Layla, Eden, Evie, Livi and Calvin. Dear sister of the late Ann (Pepper) Stephens. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Truman and Myrtle Pepper. She was a loving sister-in-law, cousin, aunt and friend to many.
Joyce had a deep and abiding faith in Jesus that began at a very young age. When she and Clinton were 17, they heard a sermon at a revival meeting that convicted their hearts. Later that night, they drove to the house where the evangelist was staying and woke him up to pray with them. That night they both received Jesus as their Savior and walked with Him all the days of their lives. Throughout her life, she trusted God as they raised children, met financial difficulties, and all the challenges that life brings. When Clinton died 11 years ago her faith never wavered and she clung all the more tightly to God's promises. She was a beautiful example to all of us of God's love and faithfulness, and she touched so many hearts throughout her life. Her faith gave her purpose and she shared it with many people throughout the years. She prayed daily for each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. What a legacy to carry.
If you spot an air of adventure in one of Joyce's descendants, she modeled it well. Joyce loved to travel with Clinton and continued to travel when he was no longer with us. She has visited all fifty states, and 6 of 7 continents. She viewed the seventh - Antarctica - from a ship cruising around Cape Horn. She has smuggled Bible into China, stood up to an armed robber in Panama, rode a camel in Egypt, drove thousands of miles on the Alaskan highway, swam in the Dead Sea, and was baptized in the Jordan River. After all of her travels, she would tell you that Hawaii was her favorite place on Earth.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 5 at 10:00 A.M. at the Hutchens-Stygar Mid Rivers Funeral Home and Crematory, 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, St. Charles, MO. 63304. Interment will follow at St. Charles Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions to The Clinton and Joyce (Pepper) Laws Scholarship Fund at Howard Payne University, 1000 Fisk, Brownwood, TX 76801 appreciated.
