Joyce Lee Kent Hollahan was born January 2, 1936, in Hosford, FL. She was raised in the Lowry community by her parents Melvin and Alco Kent. She passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, with her loving family by her side.
Joyce married at a young age and moved to Tallahassee. She later moved to Lake Talquin where she would fish and watch alligators from her dock. She had a passion for the outdoors, riding in the woods, hunting, fishing and hiking. She also enjoyed working in her flowers and garden.
She walked 10 miles for a fundraiser for the youth of her church on a broken foot at the age of 80. She was in charge of making beautiful flower arrangements for Rock Bluff Assembly of God Church, where she attended. She enjoyed directing weddings and designing the flower arrangements for them. Joyce was an avid FSU fan, a member of the Booster Club and attended every home game to cheer them on, win or lose. After 30 plus years of working for the State Of Florida, she retired as a Hearing Officer for The Department of Highway Safety.
Joyce was passionate about her family. She loved being with each one, especially her children, grandchildren, and her siblings. She enjoyed being surrounded at home by her family and always had a smorgasbord of food for everyone to enjoy. Joyce loved to travel, especially with family. She would plan trips and call the sisters and brother and say this is where we are going, be ready; traveling from Key West to Hawaii and beyond.
Most of all, Joyce loved her family and dedicated herself to keeping her family close. Having dinners, cookouts and parties at "The Pit". She loved music and dancing.
Joyce leaves behind her 2 sons, William B. (Billy) Allen (Kim) and James O. (Bubba) Allen, Jr. (Susan) both of Tallahassee; 6 Grandchildren, Russell Allen (Janet) of Tallahassee, Rhonda Lewis (Aaron) of Brownsboro, AL, Rachel Howard (Chris) of Crawfordville; and Jason Allen (Mindy), James O. Allen III (Brandi) and Kristi Sanders, all of Tallahassee; 16 Great Grandchildren; brother, Roger Kent of Hosford, FL; sisters, Jennell Adams (James) of Lake City, FL, Patricia Saint of Bristol, Cathie Parrish (Jimmy), Altha, and Brenda Bilbo, of Tallahassee; many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) Hollahan; parents, Melvin Columbus Kent and Alco Lee Kent; and siblings, Melvarene, Pat, Stanaland, Charles J. Kent, H. Cortez Kent and Hazel Marshall.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM until time of service at 12 noon EST on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Mt. Zion United Pentecostal Church, Hosford, FL with the Reverend Aaron Elkins and Reverend Steven Burdick officiating. Graveside service will follow at Hosford Cemetery.
Todd Wahlquist and Kelly Barber of Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) are assisting the family with arrangements.
