Joyce Martindale Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 18, 2024.
FORT WORTH - Joyce Smith Martindale, 87, entered her heavenly home on April 13, 2024.
Joyce was born on December 18, 1936 in Anton, Texas to parents, William C. and Elizabeth Manley Smith. She married Charles M. Martindale in 1954 and together they had four children. She lovingly raised her children and once they were all in school, she began a career in mortgage banking at Fort Worth Mortgage. After several years, she left and went to work in higher education at Texas Wesleyan University in the Student Affairs office. She then went to Texas Christian University and worked in the Mary Couts Burnett Library. While working at the universities she decided to pursue her bachelor's degree, graduating as a proud TCU Horned Frog in 1995.
She was an active member of South Hills Baptist Church for almost 60 years. She served on various committees and groups and taught Bible classes until January 2024. As a lifelong learner and lover of books, she always had several books within arms reach that she was reading and studying. After her retirement from the TCU library, she took upon the task of organizing and keeping in order the library at her senior living apartment.
Joyce also loved to travel, whether it was with the Young at Heart group to nearby attractions or a cruise through the Panama Canal with her siblings. She got to enjoy traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, New York City, California, Colorado, and many other places.
Joyce's other hobbies were sewing and knitting. She made many dresses and tops for herself, her daughters and grand-daughters throughout the years. Her most recent sewing project was making lap quilts from full quilts her mother had made. We will cherish these gifts from her.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Douglass (Betty) Martindale, Dona (Manny) Albalancy, Danny (Kathleen) Martindale and Darla (Tom) Hoag; brother, Richard (Jeanne) Smith; sister, Jeanie (Paul) Bielicke; grandchildren, Mary, Grace, Molly, Kevin, Stephanie, Darren, Shachar, Somer and Grant; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Celebration of Life: 10:30 a.m. Saturday April 27, 2024 at Redemption City Church (Formerly South Hills Baptist Church) 7350 Granbury Road, Fort Worth, TX 76123.
The Family would like to thank the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at Heart to Heart Hospice in Fort Worth for taking such great care of Mom the last two weeks of her life.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Redemption City Church of Fort Worth, Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation (htohhfoundation.org), or your local public library.

I will always remember the Christmas evenings our family shared with her family every year, growing up. Aunt Joyce was always the calming influence surrounded by a bunch of rowdy kids! Peace for all. Cathy Martindale
