Joyce Mayes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Coats Funeral Home - Waterford on Jan. 19, 2026.
Joyce Mayes passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the age of 81 with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. Joyce was born in Pontiac Michigan on October 16, 1944 to Rex and Juanita Fisher. She lived her life in the Pontiac, Clarkston and Ortonville areas.

Joyce was an accomplished hair stylist with over 50 years of experience and the proud owner of E'Clips Hair Salon in the Summit Place Mall. When Joyce wasn't cutting hair, you could find her enjoying nature by tending to her flowers, camping, and feeding the wild-life. She saw the beauty in everything which fueled her love of crafting and baking.

Above all else, Joyce cherished her family. She was incredibly proud of her son Scott, her daughter Janet, and her grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother and spoiled her grandchildren at every opportunity earning her the affectionate nickname "UPS Grandma" for the frequent surprise gifts she left at the front door. Joyce loved supporting her grandchildren in all of their accomplishments, faithfully attending their sporting events and music performances and celebrating every accomplishment along the way.

Joyce will be remembered most for her loving, compassionate, and resilient heart. She showed kindness to everyone she met and was often known as "everyone's mom," by offering a safe and loving space for all.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Tom Mayes, son Scott Bowers (Sharon McKeown), granddaughter Rachel M. Dean, parents Rex and Juanita Fisher, and her brothers Wayne, Larry, and Don Fisher.

She is survived by her daughter Janet Dean (Patrick), grandchildren Jeffrey Dean (Christina), and Andrea Dean (Renée), and her great-granddaughter Rachel R. Dean.

Please join us at Coats Funeral Home, 3141 Sashabaw Road, on Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 12-3 pm to celebrate her life. Please come as you are.

Her last words were, "I love everyone."
