Joyce L. Murphy was born on February 3, 1949, to the late Amanda J. Murphy and peacefully passed away into eternal rest on Thursday, November 21. 2024. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, warmth, and kindness in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A lifelong resident of
Trenton, New Jersey, Joyce spent 75 vears in the city and was a proud graduate of Trenton Central High School. She had a distinguished career at Bell Telephone, which later became Verizon Communications, where her dedication and strong work ethic earned her the respect of both colleagues and friends. After 40 years of service, Joyce retired with pride.
A woman of deep faith, Joyce loved God with all her heart. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age and was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Later, she became a dedicated member of Change Church under the leadership of Pastor Darius Daniels. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in serving others.
Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, known for her boundless generosity and the love she freely shared with family and friends. She had a special gift for making those around her feel cherished and valued through her creative spirit whether it was an encouraging word, a thoughtful gesture, a pop up card and as most knew her infamous picture collages.
In addition to her love for her family, Joyce was an avid reader, with a personal library overflowing with books. Her favorite poet was Maya Angelou, and she had a special fondness forcollecting personalized t-shirts for every occasion. Joyce had already designed her t-shirt for her 76th birthday. She also loved to shop, orders from Amazon continue to arrive reflecting her passion for finding just the right items. Whether it was a book, a shirt, or something else that caught her eye, Joyce always had a keen sense for the things that brought her joy.
Joyce was preceded in death by her mother Amanda]. Murphy, her brother Thomas Murphy, her nephew Thomas Smith and sister friend Terri Barlow.
Joyce leaves to honor her memories and legacy with her children, Nichole Dukes, Ta-Tanisha Dukes and Shane West; her grandchildren, Quanisha Butler, Daria (Andre) Schenck, CiAhniHunt, and Shane West; her great-granddaughter AKasha Butler;her lifelong sister friends, Beverly Counts, Valerie Griffey and Dolores Solomon. She also leaves with many years of love laughter and memories a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be 12pm Friday, December 6, 2024 at Change Church, 200 Ludlow Dr., Ewing NJ 08638. Calling hour will be 11am until time of service. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
