Joyce E. Poole of
Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her residence on January 27, 2026, at the age of 92.
She was born in
Austell, Georgia to William Rex Everett and Ida May Everett. Growing up in Austell, she attended Austell High School, where she played basketball for four years and thoroughly enjoyed the sport and the camaraderie with her teammates. After graduating in 1950, she was employed at a local bank and was a teller for a couple of years.
In 1953, she married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Curtis Freeman Poole, and together they shared 55 memorable years in marriage filled with a lifetime of adventure. Both Joyce and Freeman were avid Georgia Tech fans and attended many games. Joyce especially enjoyed fishing-most notably at Steinhatchee, Florida, where they spent many weekends deep-sea fishing. She enjoyed "lake life," where she loved to water ski and, as Joyce would say, "if you didn't let go of the ropes in time, you would fly over the boat dock and land into the woods". Camping was another favorite pastime. Other passions included sewing, crocheting, playing cards with friends, mowing the lawn, and, later in life, spending time at her cabin in the North Georgia mountains with family and friends.
After the birth of their two sons, Joyce and Freeman introduced them to their active lifestyle. Joyce was very dedicated to her family. When Freeman took over the family business, Poole's Hardware in Mableton, Georgia, Joyce worked alongside him as office manager. From 1992 to 1996, Curtis Freeman Poole served as a Cobb County Commissioner, during which time Joyce tirelessly supported him and assisted with the campaign efforts.
Joyce was a member of First Baptist Church of Mableton for over 60 years, and together with Freeman, would host many Bible studies and church events. Her church family provided her with so much support over the years, especially after the passing of her beloved husband in 2008.
Joyce moved after 66 years from her home, built when they were first married in Austell, into a new community in Powder Springs, where she lived by her best friend and also helped her brother and sister-in-law find a nearby house. They visited one another almost daily, a relationship she treasured deeply.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Freeman Poole; her sons, Curtis Freeman Poole, Jr., and William Dan Poole; her brother William E. Everett and her aunt, Ernestine "Pete" Huff.
Left to cherish her memory are her grandson, William Curtis Poole; her great-granddaughter, Jackson Danielle Poole; dear friend Mike Peacock, along with nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Joyce will be remembered for her boundless love for her family, friends, and Christ. She genuinely loved all unconditionally and with compassion and was a wonderful listener. May her soul find eternal peace reunited with her beloved husband, children, parents, and sibling in the embrace of Heaven.
The funeral graveside service will be held on February 7, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens, 581 Veterans Memorial Hwy,
Mableton, GA 30126 with Keith Weaver officiating. Immediately following the funeral, you are invited to a church reception at the First Baptist Church of Mableton, 5385 Church Street SW,
Mableton, GA 30126, located in the fellowship hall lower level.
