John Gust Spanoudakis of
Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away on February 2nd, 2026, at the age of 67.
He was born August 22nd, 1958, in
Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania to the late Gust and Angeline Spanoudakis. He grew up in North Vandergrift outside of Pittsburgh and was a lifelong Steelers fan. He was also very proud of his Greek heritage. Some of his most treasured memories were his trips to Greece.
John was a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and was a very talented chef. He showed his love through the food he prepared for others, whether it be at his job, a dish for a loved one, or feeding the homeless. He never attended any event empty-handed.
John's pastimes included attending any function for his grandchildren, Wednesday night dinners with his family, creating beautiful fish aquariums, and attending his church.
John was a very proud and loving father. His children were the light of his life, and his love was unconditional. He would go to any lengths to be there for his children, day or night, rain or shine. Being a grandpa to his grandchildren was a role that John did not take lightly, and he was honored to be "Pappou." He always made sure to shower his grandchildren with endless love and effort and was guilty, at times, of spoiling them, too. Despite his trials, he always showed up to every function, and even in his final moments, "Pappou" made sure he told his grandbabies that he loved them.
John was a faithful member of Riverside Church of God for over 20 years. He loved his pastor and church family very much. His faith was his number one priority and it was very apparent in all that he did. He taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and attended church events.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Angeline Spanoudakis; father, Gust Spanoudakis; sister, Maria Spanoudakis; and brother, George Spanoudakis.
John is survived by his life partner of 43 years, Jessie Gomez; his sons, Costa (Cara) Spanoudakis of Villa Rica, GA, and Yanni (Caitlyn) Spanoudakis of Hiram, GA; his step-daughter, Jolevette (Anthony) Zito of Douglasville, GA
His grandchildren, Ryder Spanoudakis, Hudson Spanoudakis, Caleah Spanoudakis, Everett Spanoudakis, Jacob Bailey, Elijah Mariano, Kira Larkin, and Amelia Zito; his brother, Andrew (Mary) Spanoudakis of Pittsburgh, PA; and his sisters, Georgia McDonald of Lockport, NY, and Antigone (Jeff) Kostiuk of Leechburg, PA
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, 1:00 PM at Riverside Church of God with Bishop Thomas Blagg officiating.
Interment will follow at Sweetwater Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation before the service on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church.
In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to Riverside Church of God, Powder Springs.
