Joyce Elizabeth Schranz, age 93 of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center - Green Bay.
Joyce was born on October 14, 1932, to the late Henry and Lulu (Williams) Hendricks at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. She grew up on property that was purchased by her Norwegian great grandfather and great grandmother in 1874. The transition from dairy farm to cherry orchard occurred in the 1940's, and orchard operations ended by the 1980's. She was proud to attend the State Fair this year as the homestead was recognized as a Door County Sesquicentennial Farm.
Joyce was a 1950 graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School. After high school, she continued her education at U.W. Whitewater, obtaining her Bachelor of Education Degree in Business Education in 1954. She taught in Seymour, WI during the 1954 -1955 school year. On June 10, 1955, Joyce was united in marriage to Frederick Peter Schranz. The couple moved to Crystal Lake, IL, where Fred taught for a year before they moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin. They were blessed with two daughters, Ann and Mary. Joyce worked as a substitute teacher for 5 years and as a full-time Business Education teacher for 18 years until her retirement in 1990. Fred also worked as an educator in the Waukesha school system before his death in 1981.
When the family was young, they would go tent camping each summer. Not long after retirement, Joyce returned to Sturgeon Bay to live on the homestead. She served for many years as a trustee on the board of the Shiloh Church Lot and Cemetery Association. In later years, she traveled abroad, as well as traveling to visit friends and relatives in the U.S.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Ann Schranz, as well as by nieces and nephews from the Hendricks and Schranz families. Her niece, Bonnie Miller, and husband Ben of Sturgeon Bay provided cherished companionship over many years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred; daughter, Mary Schranz; parents, Henry and Lulu Hendricks; and siblings, Robert, Don, and Jean.
