Heaven gained a spirited and hard working angel on Sunday, May 12, 2024 when Joyce Carol Shook arrived there. The youngest daughter of Halen & Ruby Bell Dills was born on a snowy January 8, 1954 in Highlands, NC, the same day as her big brother and Elvis. Carol & her family moved to Warne, NC in 1959 to where she went to school at Ogden before graduating from Hayesville High School in 1972. Carol went on to work at Clifton Precision but ultimately chose to be a domestic engineer as she called it, maintaining an orderly home with home cooked meals, feeding and running the family’s cattle, working outside in her vegetable garden many a summer day, tending to her many vibrant flower beds in her yard & raising her daughter to believe she could achieve anything she set her mind to. Carol took great pride in caring for the inside and outside of her church, Union Hill Methodist Church where she was a dedicated member and held many positions in the church.  Carol’s work ethic was unmatched as she gave her heart & soul to any task her name was tied to. Carol was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers Dennis & Dickie Dills.
Carol is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Curtis Shook of Hiawassee, daughter Emily Shook of Hiawassee, grandson Noah Davis of Hiawassee, 2 sisters Rachel [Manuel] Payne of Warne, NC and Karen Phillips of Young Harris, brother David [Kathy] Dills of Young Harris, dedicated sister-in-law Wanda Sprowls of Hiawassee, nieces, nephews also survive & other extended family also survive.
