Max Leroy Shook, age 76, went to be with the Lord on March 7th, 2026. Max was born February 7, 1950, in Plainwell, Michigan, to Frank & Georgia (Ransbottom) Shook. Max was the second born of five children in a full and active home. He married Pegg Boball in 1973 and shared 39 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2012.
He was a devoted caregiver to her during her illness. His life was defined by family, service, hard work and a love for the outdoors. Max believed in giving back. People were a driving force for him as he loved to socialize. Many people remembered him after just one encounter. Often, Max could be found on his motorcycle enjoying the open road and in his garden. He loved to spend time with family and friends, especially his grand kids. Max also believed in giving back. He supported Wings of Hope hospice and would help anyone he could. Ever since Pegg’s passing, Max would hold a yearly cancer benefit to raise money for Wings of Hope.
Max loved the Moose lodge and the people he met there. He was also a volunteer fire fighter at the Martin Fire Department for many years.
Max was preceded in death by his wife Pegg, his parents and his brother-in-law Leroy Johnson. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Kevin (Michelle) Shook and Erin Shook; his siblings: Gloria (Alice) Shook, Tom (Margaret) Shook, John (Lori) Shook and Susie Johnson; grandchildren: Lex Shook and Gabriel Shook as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visit with family and friends on Thursday, March 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Martin United Methodist Church; 969 E Allegan St, Martin, MI 49070. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.
In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to Wings of Hope Hospice. While visiting Max’s webpage at www.amsfuneralhomes.com please sign the guestbook and/or share a memory with the family.
