Joyce Singleton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McMillan-Small Funeral Home & Crematory on Nov. 20, 2024.
Joyce Chandler Singleton of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, devoted wife of James McNeill (Mack) Singleton, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sumter, South Carolina on October 5, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Jack Willard Chandler and Mary Thorne Chandler.
Joyce graduated from Winthrop College (now University) in 1967 with a Bachelor of Education. Later that same year she married the love of her life. Throughout her 15-year career in education, Joyce most cherished the opportunities she had to create an impact on numerous South Carolina communities by sharing her talent for teaching young people.
Following a successful career in education, she transitioned into the role of full-time homemaker. She devoted herself to loving and caring for her two daughters and husband. Joyce was known for her compassionate and caring heart, and her love encompassed her family and friends. She was dearly loved by everyone who met her.
Joyce also had a heart for service to her community and church, taking great joy in serving as president of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women) and with Daughters Of the King (DOK). Later in life when Joyce and Mack became part-time residents of Vero Beach, Florida, Joyce served on the Impact 100 committee and served in several leadership roles in the Sabal Palm Garden Club.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 57 years, James McNeill (Mack) Singleton, originally of Conway, South Carolina; her two children: Marie Singleton Campione (Chris) of Vero Beach, Florida and Jane Singleton Myers (Jay) of Charlotte, North Carolina; her sister, Mary Ann Nance of Sumter, South Carolina; and four grandchildren: Caroline Campione Helderlein (Phillip) of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Catherine Campione of Charleston, South Carolina, and Aubrey Myers and Asher Myers of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Jane Boulware of Lakeland, Florida and her brother, Jack Chandler of Greenville, South Carolina.
The funeral service will be held at Trinity Church, 3000 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 3 p.m. The family will receive visitors following the service in Gravely Hall. The interment will be private and held at a later date at the Singleton Family Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Church or the nonprofit of your choice.

November 22, 2024

I first met Joyce when I started working for her and Mackey at there home. We kinda became friends even tho I was there to clean . We often just saw at the bar in her kitchen and talked, sharing things that was going on in our lives. Especially mine! She was a good listener and a compassionate person. When I had to quit because of health issues I hated having to tell her and I think we both shed a few tears. After that my daughter and her husband took over and even tho we didn´t see each other or talked I kept up with what was going on thru my daughter as well she did me! I really was so fond of her and she was the first one on my list of people I worked for that I really missed! Sleep well my friend till I see you again! Love to her family, Vera (Causey) Flinchum
