Joyce Barr Thomas, age 77, of Dandridge, TN passed away April 17th, 2024. She was a graduate of Cumberland High School and went on to become a nurse. Continuing her education, she received her Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2001. After retirement, Joyce worked part-time at the Jefferson City Public Library. She had a passion for learning, especially about ancient Egypt and enjoyed traveling the world. An avid crafter, she mastered the art of glass fusion to create unique jewelry and other works of art.
She is survived by her two nieces, Lauren (Michael) Combs of New Market and Tiffany Williams of Rutledge, as well as great-niece Paige Williams. She will be warmly remembered by her close friends and extended family. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, James Michael Thomas, son, James Michael Thomas, Jr., her parents, Malcolm and Ruby Barr, and her brother, Malcolm “Joe” Barr, Jr.
There will be a visitation for family and friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Companion Animal Rescue & Education P.O. Box 1791 Dandridge, TN 37725 or by PayPal Text CAJC to 89871.
