Joyce Tomlin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Laughlin Service Funeral Home & Crematory - Huntsville on Feb. 2, 2026.
Joyce Baccus Tomlin, 91, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Born in Monroe, Georgia on August 19, 1934, to Agnes and Foster Baccus, she grew up there enjoying a loving childhood close to family and friends. Joyce graduated from Monroe High School in 1952 and went on to graduate from Georgia College for Women in 1954. In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart John Tomlin after his service in the Navy. They moved from Georgia to Tennessee, then to Huntsville in 1977 where they stayed and raised their two children Dawn and Brett. She and Johnny were married for 58 years before his passing in 2013.

Joyce was a homemaker for over 30 years dedicated to providing a loving home for her family. She had a passion for cooking, providing three meals a day, including neighbors, friends, and Dawn and Brett's friends. The more people who came to the supper table the better. She spent many years volunteering at school, hosting neighborhood socials, and visiting with neighbors on her porch. After her children were grown, she worked in security at the 4200 Building on Redstone Arsenal. These 20 years of service were some of her favorites as she shared stories about the visitors she encountered and the delight she experienced meeting and greeting people. Joyce was admired and respected at Marshall Space Flight Center. Joyce's children were a blessing and a joy, and her precious grandchildren her greatest joy. Joyce's loving nature, her sweet southern drawl, and her kindness made her an incredibly special person. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Dawn; her son, Brett (Amy); her three grandchildren, Sarah and Foster Tomlin and Brooklan Wales; three nieces, Pam Baccus Parrish (Bill), Jackie Stewart (Gene), and Judy Miller (Fred); and a nephew, Mike Tomlin.

Visitation will be Saturday February 7th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Joyce will be interred privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Free Pantry Ministry c/o St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
