Joyce "Smith" Watkins

Joyce E. (Smith) Watkins, 95, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Sherwood's Personal Care Home in Canton. Joyce was born on February 22, 1930, in Elmira, NY, a daughter of the late Lewis and Lillian (Tobey) Smith. She graduated from South Side High School and later earned her LPN from the Ithaca School of Practical Nursing.

On October 14, 1950, Joyce married the love of her life, Lazzell Watkins. The couple had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary when he passed on October 15, 2009. In her earlier years, Joyce worked for Dr. Brown at the Troy Hospital and later found joy in her customer service role at the Ben Franklin store in Troy, a job she truly loved.

Joyce had a deep appreciation for nature and was especially proud of her beautiful flower gardens. She found happiness in feeding and watching hummingbirds, a pastime that brought her endless joy. A devoted dog lover, she often brought her son's dog home to spend time with her. Joyce was a crafty individual who was an avid knitter, crocheter, and talented seamstress. Above all, she cherished her family and held a steadfast faith in the Lord.

Surviving Joyce are her children; Marsha (Stephen) Battaglini, Scott (Kelly) Watkins and Wendall (Becky) Watkins, grandchildren; Michael Watkins, Jamie Watkins, Lonnie Benninger and Jason Watkins, great grandchild; Kelsi Watson, sister; Judy Mann along with several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, Lazzell, Joyce was predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law; Marshall (Judy) Watkins and a grandson; Doug Watkins.

In keeping with the families wishes, services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
