Joyce Wilcox Obituary
Torrington- Joyce R. Wilcox, 91, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Harry H. Wilcox, Jr.
Mrs. Wilcox was born in Torrington on August 18, 1932, daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Maurer) Morgan, and had been a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Hartford Hospital's School of nursing and was a Registered Nurse at Ann's Nursery for Babies in Norfolk. Her passion of serving those with special needs led her to being a founder of LARC. She also served on the governor's Human Rights Council. Mrs. Wilcox was a Deacon and very active member at First Congregational Church, Torrington, and was President and Chaplain of the Four Corners Circle.
Joyce loved travelling by train, and toured the entire US, with the exception of Alaska. She was a life-long learner who enjoyed studying other cultures through courses at Northwestern CT Community College and travelled to several foreign countries. She also enjoyed studying arts, including wood carving and painting.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Harry, include three sons, Charles Wilcox and his significant other, Diane, of Torrington, William Wilcox and his wife, Tammy, of Gray Court, SC, and Michael Wilcox of Torrington; three daughters, Eden Horan and her husband, Edward, of Torrington, Jennifer Wilcox of Torrington, and Elizabeth Warder and her husband, Gary, of Orange, MA; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wilcox was predeceased by three sisters, Frances, Dorothy, and Adele "Betty".
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 1:00p.m. at First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave., Torrington. Burial in Newfield Cemetery, Torrington, will be private. Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, Torrington, is in care of arrangements.
