Funeral services for Joye T. Byrd, 88, will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Dr. Matthew Lane.
 
Joye was born on June 24, 1935, in Downsville, Louisiana to James E. (Jim) Taylor and Bertha (Sis) Mae Simmons Taylor and passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana.
 
Joye was a resident of Shreveport. She had a master’s degree + 30 in Education and taught 40 years with the Caddo Parish School Board in Special Education. She had a passion for education and teaching others and helping those in need. She was married to her husband, Floyd E. Byrd, and they were the proud foster parents of Gary Conner. She was a spirited wife, mother, sister, and aunt.
 
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Byrd, foster son, Gary Conner, and nephew, Hank Taylor. Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Bertha Owens; nephews, Rodney Griffin, Terry Taylor, Tom Canterbury, and Bert Owens; and nieces, Becky Reeves, Beth Long, and Beverly Lane.
 
The family would like to express special thanks to the staffs at Home Instead, Bloom Senior Living, and Intensive Specialty Hospital of Bossier City, Louisiana.
