Juan Alfredo "Fred" Cerda

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Alfredo "Fred" Juan Cerda entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 13th of September 2025 in the comfort of his Brownsville residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 89 years of age.

Fred was born in Brownsville, Texas on July 11, 1936, son of the late Guadalupe and Genoveva Gomez Cerda. He was self-employed for over 30 years as the owner of the Triangle Food Store. He later moved to Los Angeles, California, where he was employed with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for three years. He then moved home to Brownsville where he began his employment with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) for the next eight years until his retirement in 1999.

A proud veteran, Fred served in the United States Navy for four years and fought in the Korean War. Fred was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys win or lose, and he was always eagerly waiting for their next game.

Preceding Fred in death are his wife, Mary Jane Cerda; his parents, Guadalupe and Genoveva Cerda; and his brother, Guadalupe "Pito" Cerda.

Survivors include his loving daughter, Dolores "Dolly" Cerda Solis and her husband, Richard D. Solis; his sisters Domitila Borrego, Juanita De Luna, Herminia Lucio, and Dolores Salinas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

One of Fred's favorite sayings after asking him how he was doing was: "Encantado de la Vida!"

Visiting hours will be held today, Wednesday, the 17th of September 2025 between the hours of three o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to be recited at seven o'clock this evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

A Chapel Service will commence at ten o'clock in the morning tomorrow, Thursday, the 18th of September 2025. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.

Honored to serve as his pallbearers will be Rene Borrego, R. J. Borrego, Renaldo Borrego, Roy Cerda, Eddie Lucio III, and Fred Salinas.

Honorary pallbearers are his nieces and nephews.
