Juan "Juancho" Guerra

Juan Guerra, affectionately known as Juancho to his family, passed away on December 6, 2025, leaving a legacy of quiet strength, artistic appreciation, and deep love for his family.

Born in the magical and majestic city of Cartagena Colombia, he carried the beauty and spirit of his birthplace with him when he embarked on a journey to the United States. Like so many immigrants before him, he sought the opportunities that higher education offered. It was here that he met his dear wife, Nelba, and together they forged a new life, welcoming two sons and building a home filled with love and learning.

Juancho was a quiet, gentle man whose love of art was evident in his professional pursuits and his personal passion. He could often be found with a sketchpad and pencil, creating beautiful sketches on any paper he could find, capturing the visage of his family members or the hidden beauty in the everyday. Whether holding a newspaper, a book, or a sketchpad, he was often peacefully lost in thought, always seeking knowledge.

A natural teacher, his lifelong love of learning shone through in the historical mini-lessons and quizzes he frequently shared with his children and family members. He delighted in the simple pleasures of life, especially gathering his family around the table to enjoy the gourmet feasts prepared by his wife. He treasured his mother tongue, Spanish, and his jokes and stories of past adventures made family gatherings all the more memorable and vibrant.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his beloved wife of 56 years, Nelba R. Guerra, his sons, Juan Vladimir Guerra and his wife Jessica, Gaspar Guerra and his wife Christine and the late Juan Carlos Guerra Peralta, his cherished grandchildren, Amanda, Alex, Matias, Zoe and Abby, his siblings, Maritza Chumbaray and her husband Alberto, Diobeth Guerra, Beverly Arteaga and her husband Eduardo, and the late Andres, Gustavo and Vladimiro Guerra and many nieces and nephews, especially Nela N. Navarro and her husband Thomas LaPointe and Patrick Chumbaray and his wife Christa.

Juancho leaves an indelible impression on all who had the fortune of meeting him as a man of principle, a natural teacher, and a patient and quiet soul whose gentle presence spoke volumes.

Visiting Tuesday, December 9, from 5 – 7 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. Cremation will be private.

Juan Guerra, conocido cariñosamente como Juancho en su familia, falleció el 6 de diciembre de 2025, dejando un legado de fortaleza silenciosa, apreciación artística y profundo amor por su familia.

Nacido en la mágica y majestuosa ciudad de Cartagena, Colombia, llevó consigo la belleza y el espíritu de su tierra natal cuando emprendió un viaje a Estados Unidos. Como tantos inmigrantes antes que él, buscó las oportunidades que ofrecía la educación superior. Fue allí donde conoció a su querida esposa, Nelba, y juntos forjaron una nueva vida, dando la bienvenida a dos hijos y construyendo un hogar lleno de amor y aprendizaje.

Juancho era un hombre tranquilo y amable, cuyo amor por el arte se evidenciaba en sus actividades profesionales y su pasión personal. A menudo se le encontraba con un bloc de dibujo y un lápiz, creando hermosos bocetos en cualquier papel que encontraba, capturando el rostro de sus familiares o la belleza oculta de lo cotidiano. Ya sea con un periódico, un libro o un bloc de dibujo en la mano, a menudo se sumía en sus pensamientos, siempre en busca del conocimiento.

Maestro nato, su pasión por el aprendizaje, que siempre perduró, se reflejaba en las mini lecciones y cuestionarios históricos que compartía frecuentemente con sus hijos y familiares. Disfrutaba de los placeres sencillos de la vida, especialmente reuniendo a su familia alrededor de la mesa para disfrutar de los festines gourmet que preparaba su esposa. Apreciaba su lengua materna, el español, y sus chistes y relatos de aventuras pasadas hacían que las reuniones familiares fueran aún más memorables y vibrantes.

Será profundamente extrañado y recordado por siempre por su amada esposa de 56 años, Nelba R. Guerra, sus hijos, Juan Vladimir Guerra y su esposa Jessica, Gaspar Guerra y su esposa Christine y el difunto Juan Carlos Guerra Peralta, sus queridos nietos, Amanda, Alex, Matias, Zoe y Abby, sus hermanos, Maritza Chumbaray y su esposo Alberto, Diobeth Guerra, Beverly Arteaga y su esposo Eduardo, y los difuntos Andrés, Gustavo y Vladimiro Guerra y muchas sobrinas y sobrinos, especialmente Nela N. Navarro y su esposo Thomas LaPointe y Patrick Chumbaray y su esposa Christa.

Juancho deja una huella imborrable en todos los que tuvieron la fortuna de conocerlo como un hombre de principios, un maestro nato y un alma paciente y serena cuya gentil presencia lo decía todo.

Velorio el martes de 5 a 7 PM en La Funeraria Shook, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton. La cremación será privada.
