Juana P. Castañeda, 87, of San Benito, Texas was called home by the Lord in her sleep surrounded by her family on July 3, 2025. Born to Serapio M. López and Cecilia Parra Huerta on January 25, 1938.
A dedicated member of the Catholic faith, Juana was a parishioner at St. Benedict Catholic Church. She enjoyed a successful career as a cosmetologist and found joy being in her garden.
Juana is preceded in death by her husband, Ruben B. Castañeda; her parents, Cecilia Parra Huerta and Serapio López; and siblings, Santiago Parra, José Parra, Estela Peña, and Jesús Rios.
She is survived by her children, Juan (Sylvia), Ricardo (Janellfia), Norma, Rolando (Petra), Arnold (Frances), Glen (Dora); along with eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Maluhia Hospice Care for the compassionate care and support they provided, allowing the family to create lasting memories during her final days.
The Castañeda family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, July 13, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Sunday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Following the Mass, Juana will be laid to rest at the San Benito Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are her grandchildren: Erika, Brandon, Elijah, Anthony, Justin, Nicolas, Ruben, Jack, and Jared. Honorary pallbearers include Ricardo Jr., Joshua, Esteban, and Michael.
