We honor the life and legacy of Juana Hernandez Briones, a beloved figure whose kindness and warmth touched the hearts of all who knew her. Born on May 9, 1963, in Mexico, Juana's journey led her to Austin, Texas, where she built a life rich with love, family. It is with a heavy heart that we announce her passing on October 30, 2024, after a courageous battle with breast cancer for more than 10 years.
Juana's role as a custodian for the Austin Independent School District was more than a job; it was a testament to her dedication to her community. Her commitment to creating a clean and welcoming environment for students and staff alike was a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She was not only meticulous in her work but also a friendly presence in the halls she maintained, greeting everyone with a smile that could brighten even the dreariest of days.
Family was the cornerstone of Juana's world. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jose Hernandez, and their children, Juan and Maria Hernandez. Juana also leaves behind cherished family members, including her daughter-in-law Juana Gutierrez, son-in-law Omar Marin, and her dearly departed parents, Santiago Briones and Carolina Bazaldua. Her role as a grandmother was one, she embraced with joy and enthusiasm, cherishing every moment spent with her beloved grandchildren.
Juana's interests outside of work painted a portrait of a woman who found pleasure in life's simple joys. She relished the time spent with her grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Shopping was not just a pastime but an expression of her love for her family, as she delighted in finding the perfect gifts to bring smiles to their faces. In the kitchen, Juana's culinary skills were unmatched, and her cooking brought people together in celebration of both the everyday and the extraordinary.
Described by friends and family as loving, kind, and friendly, Juana's presence was a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth was a constant, her laughter infectious, and her generosity boundless. She was a friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail Austin, TX 78745. A Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 4600 E. Ben White Blvd. Austin, TX 78741. Burial will follow at Onion Creek Memorial Park.
