Juana Maya, age 80, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Born on August 22, 1945, in Rioverde, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, she was the cherished daughter of Leonardo Torres and Maria DeJesus Alvarado.
A devoted homemaker and a woman whose faith shaped every corner of her life, Juana was a longtime member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Her days were grounded in prayer, and she held her church family close to her heart, lifting them often in quiet devotion.
Juana found joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of life. She loved returning to Mexico to visit her beloved homeland, where her roots ran deep. At home, she delighted in crocheting and gardening, tending to both yarn and soil with the same patience and care she offered to the people around her. She enjoyed reading and watching television, and she was known to break into song - an expression of the spirit she carried within her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Simon Maya, as well as her parents, Leonardo Torres and Maria DeJesus Alvarado.
Juana’s legacy lives on through her children and their spouses: Asalia Garcia, Raquel Dunn, Martin Maya, and Lorena Martinez; and through her nine grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy: Elizabeth Garcia, Diana Garcia, Perla Dunn, Christian Dunn, Daniel Maya, Fernando Maya, Valeria Maya, Aaron Martinez, and Alan Martinez.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, Texas. Juana will be laid to rest in San Martin Cemetery in San Martin, S.L.P., Mexico, returning finally to the land she loved so dearly.
