Juana "Juanita" Velasco peacefully passed away on January 7, 2024
Juanita was born in Rio Piedras Puerto Rico, February 9, 1936, she came to the United States in 1958.
Prior to coming to the US, she had a dream she was walking on Luquillo Beach, Puerto Rico and she saw a man under a tree wearing a serape. When she approached him to see if he was ok, he tipped his hat and they made eye contact and he said yes with a smile and she saw a gold filling tooth. The same tooth of her future husband that awaited her in the United States.
Juanita met, fell in love, and married her husband, Galdino Velasco. They had four sons that were born and raised in Stamford CT.
Juanita was a wonderful, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, one-of-a-kind human being, who took care of her family with infinite love.
Juana was a seamstress by trade and co-owner and chef for Tacos Guadalajara, First Mexican Restaurant in Stamford and feeding the city for 35 years.
Juanita is survived by her husband, Galdino, four sons, Irwin, John, Robert (wife Marisol) and George, 7 grandchildren Amanda, Stephen, Michael, Julie and Sienna and a great granddaughter Aneleah.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 12pm Saturday, February 10th at St. Andrew's Church located at 1231 Washington Blvd, Stamford, CT.
