Juanita Bishop Deason Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 19, 2025.
Juanita Elizabeth Gleason Bishop Deason
Juanita passed from this world on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa at age 84, after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 10, 1941, to Landrum Leo and Zella Marie (Roy) Gleason.
She was raised in West Tulsa where she was a member of the West Tulsa Salvation Army Church. She attended Eugene Field Elementary, Clinton Junior High, and Daniel Webster High School where she graduated.
Juanita married Jimmie Ray Bishop on January 6th, 1959, in Sapulpa Oklahoma. They made their home in West Tulsa and then Davenport before moving back to West Tulsa. They had three children, Vickie, Jim Jr., and Gary. Jimmie preceded her in death on December 31, 1995, after 36 years of marriage. Years later, Juanita then married Vernon Delmar Deason. He also precedes her in death.
Others who preceded her in death were her parents, one brother Buddy Gleason and one sister Wanda Carriker.
She is survived by one sister Louise Lafferty, one brother George Lee Overton, both of Tulsa, daughter Vickie Bishop Gowdy of Davenport, two sons Jim Bishop Jr. and Gary Bishop and wife Marianne all of Kellyville, grandchildren Missy Childress, BJ Gowdy, Derek Gowdy of Sapulpa, Tia Myers of Bixby, Brayden Bishop, Trey Bishop, and Megan Bishop of Kellyville, Robert Bishop and wife Cassie of Hartshorne, Dawna Galicia and husband Michael of Oregon, Fifteen great grandchildren, Hailey, Jayden, Conner, Owen, Mason, Brayden, Sam, Jonas, Isaac, Coraline, Kirsten, Winter, Allyssa, Ayden, and Eli, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed doing embroidery; many of us are the recipients of the beautiful hand-sewn pillowcases she made with love. She liked doing crossword puzzles, word searches and Sudoku. She was also an avid reader, her favorite book being the Bible. She read it from front to back many times, always said she learned new things and then she would share them with her children. Although she never had lessons, she could play the piano by ear.
Juanita was an amazing cook. She wrote out her recipes for homemade egg noodles, chicken and dumplings and spaghetti sauce which were favorites. We are still trying to master them, but somehow, they still don't quite match the taste of Mom's.
Juanita had a variety of jobs including a waitressing, babysitting so she could stay home with her children, and working in the school cafeterias at Clinton, Pleasant Porter and Webster. When she was able to go back to school, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She answered her calling and began working as an Orthopedic nurse at St. John Medical Center for many years before retiring from there. Juanita often spoke about the core values of Sister Therese and the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother which guided her throughout her career.
The family would also like to recognize and thank Joyce Sanders Rogers for being the unwavering lifelong friend of our mother since childhood and continuing until the end. Truly sisters at heart.
