Juanita (Nita) Rae Ferdig

Juanita (Nita) Rae Ferdig, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed from this life unexpectedly Thursday, May 29, 2025.

She was born September 10, 1945 to Russel & Myrtle (Quam) Crowther in Vermillion, South Dakota. She was raised by her aunt and uncle Norrel & Virginia Quam of Elk Point, South Dakota.

Nita and Gary met while attending Elk Point High School in South Dakota and married July 30, 1965. Gary's career in the military had them bouncing around the country with residences in Nebraska, California, Florida, back to California, and finally settling in Oak Harbor, Washington.

In addition to raising her four children, she worked as a housekeeper and janitor for various companies through the years.

Nita enjoyed doing pottery, playing Bingo, chatting with her friends and family, watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. She loved pets, especially her dogs Bella and Bernie. Her home was often filled with the sound of soccer or football on the television.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gloria, her brothers Raydon and Jules, and her cousin Beverly Quam.

Among those grieving her passing are her husband of 59 years Garald Ferdig of Oak Harbor, her sister Barbara Quam Selby of Des Moines, Iowa, her children: Jeff Ferdig of Sedro-Woolley, Terri (Scott) Boucher of Oak Harbor, James (JD) Ferdig of Colorado Springs and Robert (Kimberly) Ferdig of Burlington; her grandchildren: Donna Kay Christy, Sean Ferdig, Douglas Ferdig, Joel (Mercedes) Boucher, Jordan (Brendon) Boden, Eban Ferdig and Kyliegh Ferdig, and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Donations in her memory are encouraged to Skagit County Meals on Wheels.
