Juanita Emmagene Freeman (Sakkinen) was surrounded by her family at home and peacefully entered eternal life with her Savior Jesus Christ on May 30, 2024. Juanita (Nita) was born November 25, 1951 in Detroit Michigan to Matt (Uno) and Evelyn (Baker) Sakkinen.
As a single mother she provided daycare in her homewhile raising her two children and attended college in the evening. Upon completion of her degree her career was spent at the City of Novi in the Planning Department.
In June of 1991 she married her loving husband Larence (Larry) Freeman in Howell, Michigan.
The things in life she enjoyed were her dogs, reading, crocheting, playing cards, finding a "great deal" resale shopping and camping/vacationing with family and friends. She will always be remembered for her home cooked meals and holiday dinners creating memories with family and friends and spending time together. She loved people and had a big heart, especially for babies. She would be the first to offer to babysit so she could hold and rock babies. After retiring she had the privilege of babysitting two sweet girls that were the apple of her eye. There is a void in the hearts of those who knew her. Her faith, laughter, love, grit and ability to make everyone feel loved will be missed but not forgotten. She stood firm in her faith and did the best she could to live out the command Jesus gave in John 13:34-35 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." She didn't give up on the hope she had for people, tried to see the best in everyone she encountered, forgiving, and encouraging them along the way.
She is survived by her husband, Larence (Larry) Freeman, son David Welton (Lindsay), daughter, Kristin Fear (Todd), sister, Elaine Thomas (Arthur) along with nieces, nephews and cousins. Nita was preceded in death by her parents, sister and son.
A celebration of life will take place on Monday, June 3, 2024 at Fowlerville United Brethren Church (9300 W. Grand River Ave, Fowlerville, MI 48836). Visitation will be from 10a.m – 11a.m., with the Service immediately following, Pastor Julie Priestley officiating. Following the service cremation will take place and family and friends are welcome to gather for a luncheon at the church. In lieu of flowers or gifts the family has asked for donations to be dedicated to Fowlerville UB Church.
