Juanita Geraldine Bowens Miller of Hendersonville, TN, formerly of Scott Depot, WV walked into the arms of Jesus the morning of March 10, 2025.
Known affectionately to many as "Jerry", she was born in Scott Depot, West Virginia to the late Edith (Lovejoy) Bowens and William Isaac Bowens on April 8, 1930. Her mother Edith died when she was five, and her father later remarried Rosie, the woman who would take on the role as her mother.
Jerry and her siblings: Harold, Henry and Vera Bowens, grew up on a small family farm with siblings from Rosie and William - her sisters: Dolores and Loretta, and brother, Eddie in Scott Depot, West Virginia.
Jerry attended college for two years, but the pressing need for school teachers in their rural community moved her to become a teacher in a one room schoolhouse. She later married Vernon William Miller, and they moved to Marion, Ohio where they raised their four children: Verna, Sandy, Mark and Eddie Miller.
Jerry was a stay home mom until her children went to school, and she then began her 2nd career as a teacher's assistant at MARCA School for Special Needs Children, where she retired. Upon retirement, Jerry and Vernon moved to Smyrna, Tennessee where their 4 children resided.
Jerry was a believer in Jesus, a devoted wife of 65 years, and a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was feisty, very independent, and a survivor in every sense of the word. She will be missed by her family and by her friends at Legacy Village in Hendersonville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vernon Miller; son, Eddie Miller; grandson, Ryan Rodgers; brothers: Henry Bowens, Harold Bowens (Jeanne), Eddie Bowens; sisters: Vera Bowens Anderson, Dolores Jean Bowens Miles, Loretta Bowens Payton; brother-in-law, Doug Miles; and son-in-law, Judd Newman.
She is survived by her daughters: Verna Wyatt (Christopher) and Sandy Newman; son, Mark Miller; sister-in-law, Suzanne Bowens; grandchildren: Keith Rodgers (Samantha), Noah Newman (Alex), Nate Newman, Christopher Wyatt (Alex), Nicole Wyatt Holland (Heath), Lucas Wyatt (Tobi Jane Voan), Alethea Miller, Macey Miller, Raleigh Miller (Cynthia), Taylor Miller (Gracie); Great grandchildren: Charlie, Gunnar, Bear, Sonny, Katie, Kylie Rodgers, Madeline Holland Johnson (Isaac), Mylo and Moss Holland, Dove Miller, Michael and Tony Brown; along with many nieces and nephews.
Graveside Service for Jerry will be 10:00 am Saturday March 22, 2025 at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane, WV.
