Juanita Cozene was born during the depression years on July 11, 1931, to Luther and Oleta Duncan in the small town of Bee House, Texas.  She was the oldest of five siblings.

Her parents were hard-working and frugal.  And they taught her well. She learned to cook at the age of 6 and continued until she was 91.

She helped her daddy milk their 2 cows each morning before she went to school.  In the summer, she hoed in the garden and their peanut fields.  She drew water by hand from their well, and she pulled cotton to help with expenses.   She was 13 when the family moved to a house that had electricity.

Cozene was 16 ½ when she married Lloyd Newman.  She thought he was the handsomest man that she had ever met.  They both decided that they wanted to live in town with paved streets and sidewalks, so they moved to Fort Worth.

While living there, they had a daughter, a son, and another daughter.  A miraculous healing of the baby boy caused Cozene to completely surrender her life to the Lord.  She was the first in her family to be saved.  Through the years, her parents, her siblings and some of their children came to know the Lord.

Cozene became a prayer warrior and served the Lord faithfully.  The scripture she live by was Colossians 3:17. She gave herself sacrificially to God, to her family, and to others in need.  She taught Sunday School for many years.

Cozene went home to her Lord and Savior on January 21, 2024.  She loved her family, and in return she is loved and missed by her daughters, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and her great-great grandsons.
