Dorene Hulda Newman

Dorene H. Newman, age 87, of Marshfield, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Three Oaks Health Services in Marshfield under the tender care of Heartland Hospice.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in North Spencer. Interment to follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Riplinger. Pastor Ritchie Cole will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 9:30 am until time of service Saturday at the church. The honor of pallbearers belongs to: Daniel Newman, Nathan Abney, Scott Schmidt, Chad Schmidt, Jon Knoll and Chris Knoll. The honorary pallbearers are Stephanie Abney and Dana Anderson.

Dorene was born on October 17, 1938, the daughter of Clarence and Vera (Hendrickson) Knoll. She grew up in rural Colby, where she attended Cloverdale School and Colby High School. Dorene was united in marriage to Donald Newman on January 14, 1956. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm in rural Unity, where they raised four children.

Dorene was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She was active with the Ladies Aid, teaching Sunday School and volunteering wherever needed. Her and Don were the Maplewood Badgers 4-H leaders for many years, served on the Clark County Fair Board and a member of the Clark County Homemakers. Dorene enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needle work, gardening, square dancing, polka dancing, cooking, baking and canning. They especially enjoyed wintering in McAllen, TX for many years. For all her volunteering and involvement in the community, she was honored by the Colby Chamber of Commerce as farm wife of the year. Most importantly, she loved and cherished her family.

Dorene is survived by her husband of 70 years, Donald; her four children: David (Brenda) of Unity, Douglas (Terra) of Colby, Dawn (Michael) Kaiser of Medford and Darla of Marshfield; four grandchildren: Daniel (Rachel) Newman, Dana (Eric) Anderson, Nathan (Amanda) Abney and Stephanie (Cassandra) Abney; a granddaughter-in-law, Kara Newman; nine great-grandchildren: Jacob, Eli, Avery Newman, Calley Watt, Ben Anderson, Olivia and Annalise Abney, Lennox and Zealand Abney. She is further survived by her two brothers: LaVern (Evelyn) Knoll and Gene (Cheryl) Knoll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Janet (Norman) Schmidt and a grandson, Darin Newman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred in Dorene's memory.
